Scentwork Classes for Beginners

Scentwork (also called nosework) lets your dog do what their nose was made for. It’s brilliant for tiring out busy brains, and it’s a lot of fun for both of you.

Why scentwork

Scentwork engages your dog’s brain and tires them out more than a walk alone, because they’re solving problems with their nose. It’s a fun, rewarding way for dogs to use their natural abilities.

What it does for your dog

  • Mental stimulation: working out scent puzzles is proper brain work.
  • Natural instincts: it satisfies your dog’s urge to sniff, and that often helps in other training too.
  • Confidence: finding the scent is a win, and wins build a more confident dog.
  • Bonding: you learn to read each other and work as a team.
  • Exercise: there’s physical work too, especially when there are obstacles to get around.
  • Fewer problem behaviours: it gives energy somewhere good to go, which can help with barking, chewing or digging.

How it works

  1. Register your interest

Get in touch and I’ll let you know as soon as a new course is running.

  2. A short video call

The first session is for humans only, by video, before the classes start.

  3. Five classes with your dog

Five 50-minute classes where your dog learns to find scents, and you learn to read them.

You’ll be training with me, Katya

I left my office job to follow my passion, and now I train dogs and their people in Edinburgh. I only use reward-based training, because it makes learning fun for you and your dog.

And then there’s Steve, my ruby Cavalier. Head Start wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for him.
